Toshiba p/n MK2004GAL. New replacement 20Gb hard drive for 1st *, 2nd *, 3rd or 4th generation Apple iPods. These are BRAND NEW Apple logo drives. They have been formatted for 4th gen. iPods so you will need to use the Apple iPod updater program available as a free download from Apple to format them if you use a different model. We will be happy to format it for you if you ask us in the comments section of the order during checkout, be sure to include your iPod model and whether you would like it Windows or Mac formatted.
* Important Note for 1st and 2nd gen. iPods: This drive will work in 1st and 2nd gen. iPods allowing you to upgrade to 20Gb. But this is a newer model drive than what was originally used in the 1st and 2nd gen iPods. It is the thin drive, not the thicker 'bubble' drive like the MK2003. Why is this important? Well it's the same thickness as the 5Gb drive used in the 1st gen. and the 10Gb drive used in the 2nd gen. and the 15Gb drive used in the 3rd gen.
But if you have a 10Gb 1st gen. or a 20gb 2nd gen. then this drive is thinner than your current drive which means that there will be a little extra space inside the iPod. You can put an additional drive mount on top of the drive to take up that space so the drive does not 'rattle around' in the iPod but you do so at your own risk! Also, if you have a 40gb 2nd or 3rd gen. than this drive will be thinner in the same way.
Other than the fact that this drive may be thinner than your current drive in 1st and 2nd gen. iPods, it is a great way to upgrade your iPod to a 20gb drive!!
