Sony AIT-2 tapes use our patented—and proven—advanced metal evaporated
processing to create an exceptionally durable tape. Sony's Diamond Like Carbon
protective coating is 20 times harder than oxide, and so smooth that head wear and
cleaning requirements are minimized.

DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) Protective Film
The AIT tape surface is protected by a hard carbon layer made of
DLC, Sony's Diamond Like Carbon film. With nearly the hardness
of a diamond, the DLC structure is 20 times harder than an oxidation
layer. This hardness, along with the extremely smooth surface,
maximizes media reliability and life.
